The 5th Symposium of Young Tunnelers of Asia (SYTA 2025) was successfully held on 5 October 2025 in Tehran, Iran, hosted by the Iranian Tunneling Association (IRTA). This international event brought together young professionals, researchers, and industry experts from across the United States, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia, fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration in the tunneling and underground construction sector.
The symposium welcomed participants in person as well as online registrants, demonstrating the global interest and commitment of the young tunneling community. Attendees engaged actively in opening sessions, keynote speeches, and technical presentations sharing insights and experiences from their respective regions.
IRTA expresses its sincere gratitude to the IRTA Board, especially President Dr. Mohammad Khosrotash and Vice-President Dr. Jafar Hassanpour, for their guidance and support, which were instrumental in organizing the symposium at a high international standard.
Special appreciation is extended to ITA-AITES President Dr. Andrea Pigorini, Immediate Past President Dr. Arnold Dix, and Director of EMI, CSM, Dr. Jamal Rostami, whose valuable speeches and guidance inspired both seasoned professionals and the next generation of tunneling engineers. IRTA also acknowledges the contributions of colleagues from ITA Young Members (ITAym) worldwide, whose support and collaboration played a key role in the success of SYTA 2025. While it is impossible to list every individual, their efforts were deeply appreciated.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to the Chair of SYTA 2025, Hanan Samadi, for her leadership, dedication, and efforts in organizing and guiding this symposium to success.
The symposium was also made possible thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, Rahsaz Tarh Consulting Engineers Co., Sabir Dam and Water Works Construction., Metra Consultant Engineers, Tajhiz Tunnel Eng., and Iran Water and Power Resources Development, whose partnership allowed the event to achieve its international scope and high-quality program.
The 5th Symposium of Young Tunnelers of Asia has once again highlighted the talent, collaboration, and dedication of young tunneling professionals worldwide. IRTA looks forward to continuing this mission of knowledge sharing, professional development, and international cooperation in future events.
