Chinese interested in Melbourne Metro Rail Chinese companies have expressed significant interest in helping fund the Melbourne Metro Rail project. 9km rail project tunnel alignment Premier Daniel Andrews, who is on an official China visit, said several Chinese businesses had shown support for the proposed rail tunnel - bringing the government closer to finding the finances needed to make the plan a reality. Chinese interest in the project came as Andrews hosted an investment lunch with business delegates in Nanjing - the capital of Victoria's sister-state, the Jiangsu province. "I have had discussions with numerous business leaders here from state-owned enterprises, and from others, about investing in our infrastructure agenda, and Melbourne Metro Rail is on the radar here," he said. "There is very significant interest in Metro Rail and in all of our infrastructure agenda." The Victorian state government is moving ahead with the AUS$11 billion project, with the Melbourne Metro Rail Authority sending letters to 21,000 residents and businesses along the rail alignment. About 200 properties are expected to be compulsorily acquired to make way for the tunnel. Sep 24, 2015 Link: http://www.tunneltalk.com/World-News-Briefs.php
