Qatar completes main tunnel of Mesaimeer project
Excavation works for the main tunnel of Mesaimeer Surface and Ground Water Drainage Project in Qatar have been completed. The project will discharge groundwater and storm water into the sea, decreasing the surface water level, contributing to the reduction of pumping costs and disposal of groundwater in construction projects around the country, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) said. Works were carried out by a pair of tunnel boring machines developed by the German manufacturing company, Herrenknecht AG. Excavation and construction of sub-tunnels and inspection manholes are still to be completed in early 2017. The main tunnel is about 10km long and 30-metres deep, extending several kilometres out to sea. It is linked to a pumping station with a capacity of 19 cubic metres per second to discharge storm water through an offshore outfall several kilometres away from the shoreline to ensure the protection of the shoreline and its surrounding environment. by Utilities ME Staff on Aug 10, 2015 Links: http://www.utilities-me.com/article-3707-qatar-completes-main-tunnel-of-mesaimeer-project/
